October 2017 Update: Hello Donors and Potential Donors, below is an update on our activities. The Fund’s balance is getting used well and our balance is just around $5,000.00 as we’ve dispersed a few gifts:
- $500 for an Athens High School student (Marching Green and Gold) purchasing percussion equipment, specifically a new bass drum for the student to use with the Marching Green and Gold.
- $500 for an Athens High School student (Marching Green and Gold*) purchasing a baritone saxophone for the student. The student is very interested in moving to this upper level instrument but cannot afford it.
- $500 for an Athens High School student (Marching Green and Gold) towards students private lessons and participation in collegiate honor bands to prepare student for study in music education in college.
We’re now turning our attention to finding new recipients for Winter/the Holidays, which include:
- Athens County Children Services Holiday Gifts
- Arts West Musical Instrument “Lending Library”
- Blue Eagle Music, donation for lessons and instruments for open scholarship.
- Athens High School (Ohio) Band, donation for brass instruments, lessons, and sheet music (ongoing).
We’ll continue to post updates on where these donations are going, and appreciate any feedback you may have. Thank you for your interest in our October 2017 Update.

The Athens High School Marching Band has a rich tradition of excellence performing for football games, OMEA competitions, and parades within the Athens area, throughout the state of Ohio, and select performances in venues such as Walt Disney World, Chicago and New York City. It is the mission of the Marching Green and Gold to strive to maintain and improve this outstanding record of musical and marching performance. The students of the marching band are expected to show class in providing school spirit and representing Athens High School and the city of Athens.
