Casa Cantina Fundraiser

Fundraiser event including live music, raffles for and silent auction featuring work from local artists, local swag and musical instruments.

The Athens Artists Memorial Project (AAMP) will be holding its first annual fundraiser concert at the Casa Cantina, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, from 6pm – 9pm. Admission is FREE and the event is open to the public. The Casa is located at 6 West State Street in Uptown, Athens, Ohio.

AAMP provides music and arts assistance to those in need, in memory of local artists and musicians who have passed on. Their mission is to channel charitable funds to people in Southeast Ohio who are interested in the arts.

AAMP started in 1995 as the “Johnny B. Fund” in memory of local musician John Bartlet who passed away unexpectedly at the age of 34. The community’s shock turned into action as memorial benefits were organized with all proceeds going to low income children in the Southeast Ohio region who are interested in taking music lessons, but lack the means to do so. AAMP was born in 2020 as the organization was prompted to grow due to the passing of more local artists while the need for music and arts assistance in our community grew.

In 2022, AAMP became an official 501C3 Non-profit corporation, and elected its first Board of Directors, and is celebrating this legitimacy with its first official fundraising event.

AAMP has taken in over $8,000.00 in donations since incorporating, in memory of: – Johnny B., – J.D. Hutchison, – Rob Quebman, – John Spataro, – Greg Anderson, – Lowell Jacobs, – Mark Richardson and – Todd “Uncle Fun” Dunbebin.

AAMP has awarded over $3,000.00 in 2022 so far for such items as: – Federal Hocking Band Camp, – Stuarts Opera House After School Music Program, – Federal Valley Resource Center, – Athens County Children’s services “Santa Tree Project,” and – several private lessons and instrument donations. “We’re really excited to show the community what we’ve been up to lately” says AAMP Board President Doug Brooks. “We’ve put a lot of work into this group over the past year, and it will be fun to show off what we’ve created at this Casa Event, which I hope will be the first of many.”

Please note: While Casa’s restaurant is closed on Tuesdays, the Cantina will be open.

This event will feature:

Music by Frank McDermott, Jerrod Goggans, and performances by the Stuarts Opera House “After School Music Program” led by Adam Remnant, featuring Mackenzie Hedges (solo), Counterfeit Painters (indie-pop-rock band), and Arachnid (heavy metal band.)

Raffle Items and Silent Auction with some amazing items donated by Jackie O’s, Stewart McDonald Guitar Shop, Passion Works, the Stitcherhood, Milo’s Whole Food Gourmet, the Athens Cinema, and Quinn Westenbarger Pottery.

Speeches by AAMPs Board President Doug Brooks, and remarks from other interested parties.

Any and all donations made or raised at this event will be matched by AAMP’s generous benefactors Lucian and Lori Spataro, up to $1,800.00. AAMP is a federally recognized 501(C)(3) non-profit. All donations are tax deductible.
