First Ever AAMP Benefit Event Wrap Up

AAMP Board of Directors

AAMP held its first annual fundraising event at the Casa Cantina on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022 and by all accounts, it was a smashing success!

The three hour event featured live music, raffles and silent auction featuring work from local artists, local swag and musical instruments.

The night kicked off with a speech from AAMP Board President Doug Brooks, quickly followed by a solo acoustic set by Jerrod Goggans, who displayed his unique bluesy finger pickin’ style to get the night going.

Frank McDermott then did a set of classical guitar, followed by Thaddeus Semsel “playing his face” in memory of Mark Richardson, who created this art form back in the 1980s.

The music culminated, under the stewardship of sound person Harper Reese and Casa Manager Josh Brown, with Stuarts Opera House “After School Music Program” led by Adam Remnant & Adam Graham, featuring Mackenzie Hedges (solo), the Counterfeit Painters, and Arachnid, who blew the doors off the place!

The Auction Items combined with Raffle Tickets, as well as several private donations brought the total amount raised at the event to over $2,300.00!

Lucian and Lori Spataro kicked in another $3.500.00 making this our most successful fund raising effort yet, one which we aim to expand upon moving forward.

WOUB did a story/ audio segment  before the event, and the Ohio University Post did a story on the event after it occurred, and you can check those out by clicking the links within.

A special thanks to all the people and businesses that donated funds and specialty items, including Jackie O’s, Stewart McDonald Guitar Shop, Passion Works, the Stitcherhood,  the Athens Cinema, and Quinn Westenbarger Pottery, Dan Erlewine, Stuart’s Opera House, O’Betty’s, Milo’s Whole World Gourmet, and J.D. Hutchinson’s CDs.

Your generosity helps us to help Athenians with limited resources to experience music and the arts.
