Hi Folks – here’s what we’ve been up to the past couple of weeks since becoming a 501C3:
- We held our first official board meeting at the Athens Public Library and welcomed our new board of directors (so far). Doug Brooks (President), Roman Warmke (Treasurer), Maria Warmke (Secretary), and KC Waltz and Stephanie Hayes (Board Members). Dawn Graham accepted our invitation to join our board, and will attend her first meeting in January. Lucian continues to monitor via emails as an Advisor, from sunny AZ.
- The annual “LennonFest”, an Athens celebration of John Lennon with several local bands covering his tunes, was held at The Union on 12/11/21. All proceeds ($758.00) were donated to AAMP. Roman spoke briefly about AAMP and our mission.
- Kelly Lawrence, an Athens artist and member of AMAC (Athens Municipal Arts Commission) approached AAMP and is interested in working with us. Kelly has offered AAMP a free booth at the Athens Community Arts & Music Festival (performances, booths and vendors on closed Union Street) in August.
- Sadly, our friend, beloved local musician, and all around amazing man J.D. Hutchison passed away in early November and has joined our esteemed list of AAMP Memorials. They just don’t make ’em like J.D. anymore…
- President Doug is working on several Christmas projects which we will update you on in January. (Blue Eagle, Athens County Children’s Services, Stuart’s After School Program, Arts West, Athens High School, and a possible new AAMP Scholarship in the works.)
- Speaking of Doug, he organized an interview of AAMP by WOUB and their Senior Culture Writer Emily Votaw. Roman joined Doug for this 7 minute interview which is as enlightening, as it is entertaining: (Audio Below | View Full Story: https://woub.org/2021/12/02/the-athens-artists-memorial-project)
That’s all for now, but if you know of someone in need this holiday season fill out our form to help them achieve their artistic goals.
