Hello Friends of AAMP – Summer is here and its time for another update from the Athens Artists Memorial Project!
The Voodoo Birds came to town and performed a Revival Show at the Union on May 20th, and our organization was represented by use of a booth in the back showcasing our organization, and education interested show goers as to what we do. Considering two of our “In Memorium” members once performed with the Voodoo Birds (Rob Quebman and Mark Richardson) it seemed like an appropriate thing to do.
Thanks to board members Maria Warmke and Stephanie Hayes, who sat behind the booth all night long answering questions, handing out materials, and collecting donations. Also thanks to the band itself, not only for inviting us to be part of this amazing night, but also donating a dollar for each merchandise purchase to AAMP. Look for the return of the Voodoo Birds soon!
We also are happy to announce we recently gave a $500 cash scholarship to Max who applied for assistance to help attend Ohio University in the Fall.
“I plan on majoring/Bachelor in Studio Art and another year to get Masters so I can be an art teacher. I also plan on auditioning for the marching 110 at OU and to continue my love of theatre.”
Max came in to pick up our check and we took a few photos of the event at Arts West in Athens.
Other than that, we’ve been busy creating internal bylaws for our organization, as well as designing some new stickers, and prepping to have a presence at some of the fine Summer Music Festivals coming this summer around Southeast Ohio.
We also got our first payout from the Kroger Community Rewards program, so thank you for all who donated through them.
“The Kroger Family of Companies is committed to community engagement, positive social impact and charitable giving at the national and local levels. Every community is unique, but our common goal is to partner with the neighborhoods we serve and help the people there live healthier lives.
One of the ways in which we do this is through our Kroger Community Rewards program. This program makes fundraising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping you do every day. Once you link your Card to an organization, all you have to do is shop at Kroger and swipe your Shopper’s Card.”
Finally, we’re on the hunt for new board members if you or someone you know may be interested, contact us at your convenience as we are looking to expand our group.
We’re looking forward to a busy 2023 season and invite you to get involved with our cause either by making a donation, or by helping to spread the word on how we can all improve arts education in Southeast Ohio.
