Hello Friends of AAMP – Springtime is here and its time for another update from the Athens Artists Memorial Project!
We recently gave away 3 ($500.00) scholarships to Athens County Residents interested in pursuing the arts through education. Our donation will help these students handle the costs of tuition and supplies at Ohio University.
We also gave a nice little acoustic guitar starter pack to a 9 year old boy in foster care through Children’s Services. The boy’s Foster dad, who is trying to adopt him, also plays guitar, so we hope this is a fun activity they can do together. We removed the young man from the donation photo due to privacy, but pictured above is AAMP Board Members Tim Trout and Roman Warmke proudly displaying this instrument, under the watchful eye of Blue Eagle Owner Frank McDermott, where we buy most of our equipment.
We’ve also been working closely with the Federal Valley Resource Center, finding a good home to a recently donated drumset and clarinet, who’s music programs and instrument library allow residents to explore hidden talents, interests and learn more about the wonders of music.
Besides the other somewhat boring activities such as applying for Grants, and doing Taxes, we’re gearing up to have a presence at some of the many concerts, events, and outdoor music festivals that occur in Athens each summer, beginning with the Voodoo Bird Revival Show to be held on May 20th, 2023.
